GURUGRAM: The state government plans to use corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a mode to reduce the gap between skill levels and job requirements. Big corporate houses are being roped in to train youngsters under CSR and then absorb them.
In fact, the the government has already set up a multi-skill development centre in in Udyog Vihar, where over 100 disabled people have been trained though CSR sponsored by companies in IT and ITES sector. Those people will be now absorbed in various companies to help them achieve a sustainable source of income. An IT lab has also been designed and built by the state government through Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (Hartron) under its CSR initiatives.
“There is a huge gap between the existing skill levels and the skill required for a job, that is why the state government is focussing on skill development,” said Rajive Gulati, assistant general manager of Hartron Multi-skill Development Centre.
At the centre, visually challenged and orthopedically challenged people are being trained in computers and personality development.
The state government’s IT department has also signed an MOU with Intelenet where the latter has built an IT lab under its CSR project and this lab will also be used for skill development.
“The government also wants the companies to tie up with universities in the state and give skill training to the students who can later be absorbed by the same companies,” Gulati said.
There has been quite a lot of movement in terms of CSR in the state as the government aims to tap the funds for addressing some of the important issues such as job creation, sanitation and education. And Gurgaon being the business hub for the state, the government has a larger pool of CSR funds to draw from.
TOI had earlier reported that district administration has been actively working with the likes of Maruti, Hero, DLF, Samsung and other big companies in the same regard. Maruti, for instance, has signed an MOU with the district education department for improvement of learning levels among government school students.
“We welcome the Haryana government’s initiative for skill development. It will indeed give further boost to ‘Skill India’ campaign. At Maruti Suzuki, we are committed and continuously working towards skill development by developing infrastructure, curriculum etc at government-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). We have adopted over 140 ITIs across country to develop skilled manpower for industry,” said Ranjit Singh, general manager, CSRS, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.
He added, “Additionally we are also working in developing skills of commercial taxi drivers by training them on safe driving at our driving facilities and working closely with taxi aggregators like Uber and Ola.”
